National Arboretum Clean-up

On December 8th, 2018, we went to the United States National Arboretum to help clean up the area by picking up unwanted excess materials off the ground. The place we cleaned was called the Asian Hill, dedicated to the plants and trees native to East Asia. It was freezing, and when we first stepped outside, the wind was blowing heavily. Nevertheless, we wanted to make an effort and still work hard to clean up our cultural assets. Therefore, we tried our best to endure the harsh weather.

We were all surprised by the amount of leaves, weeds, and branches on the ground that we had to clean up. Seeing that it would be more work than we all thought, we decided to work by putting our strengths together. Each of us was assigned different parts to clean up during our time there. The two hours flew by quickly as we were thinking about the results and the contributions to preserving our culture.

After a few hours of working, we successfully accomplished our goal of cleaning up most of the area. We felt a sense of satisfaction when we saw how much the area’s appearance had improved. It was an amazing experience to be able to help out and see the National Arboretum for ourselves and see what kind of exhibits they had to display East Asian native plants.
